Search for Common Ground

WHAT An international NGO  that implements on the ground conflict resolution techniques through creative and collaborative problem solving.

HOW  The well established organization, founded in 1982,  uses a variety of means to bring about peaceful resolution including: media production (radio, TV, film and print), sports, drama, music, community organizing and more. Search for Common Ground works with local partners to develop culturally appropriate methods that will put an end to conflict.

WHERE The NGO has 50 offices in 30 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe (PEACETUBE)

WHAT A worldwide Facebook chat app (still in progress) that intends to connect people from opposite sides of the political and global spectrum. PeaceTube users log into the app and the system randomly and anonymously introduces the user to another person from a different country. The two can get to know each other via chat, form a connection, find common ground, and even take the nextstep - reveal their Facebook identities, and if they choose, become full-fledged Facebook friends.

Center for Media & Peace Initiatives (CMPI)

WHAT A NYC based nonprofit that promotes conflict resolution through training media professionals and raising awareness about the role of media in promoting peace. The CMPI offers various training projects ranging from courses that teach young people about journalism to professional development programs for African journalists.The organization also conducts media-centered academic research focusing on communication and peaceful resolution in addition to seminars and events.

Seeds of Peace

Seeds Of Peace equips youth and educators with the skills and relationships they need to accelerate social, economic, and political changes essential for peace. While focusing on personal transformation and then wider societal change.

The New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP)

AVP provides free and confidential assistance to thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-affected (LGBTQH) people each year from all five boroughs of New York City through direct client services and community organizing and public advocacy.  AVP was named a White House Champion of Change for its work on intimate partner violence within LGBTQH communities.

City University of New York (CUNY) Dispute Resolution Center at John Jay College of Criminal Justice

Since 1993, John Jay College of Criminal Justice has housed the City University of New York Dispute Resolution Consortium (CUNY DRC), a university based academic center which serves as a comprehensive coordinating mechanism to advance research and innovative program development throughout the City University as well as the New York City metropolitan area.

Community Mediation Services

Community Mediation Services, Inc. in Queens, NY has a holistic approach to conflict resolution that touches many thousands of people each year.  The organization offers basic mediation training, custody-visitation mediation training, a divorce mediation program, and a mediation apprenticeship program.
